During the third quarter of 2021, the top 5 travel and local apps on the Android platform in the United States showcased noteworthy performance trends. Leveraging data from Sensor Tower, we provide an overview of these apps' weekly downloads and active user metrics.

Hopper: Hotels, Flights & Cars saw a significant rise in weekly downloads, starting from around 75K at the end of June and peaking at over 121K in mid-August. The app maintained a robust user base with weekly active users climbing from 325K to over 431K by the end of September.

Upside: Cash Back - Gas & Food experienced a remarkable growth in weekly downloads, beginning at approximately 20K in late June and reaching around 113K in late August. Active users also increased steadily, starting at 390K and surpassing 680K by the end of the quarter.

Booking.com: Hotels & Travel showed a gradual decrease in weekly downloads, from about 93K at the end of June to just under 50K by the end of September. Despite this, the app maintained a high number of active users, peaking at around 1.25M in early August before declining to approximately 991K by the end of the quarter.

Airbnb recorded a steady decline in weekly downloads from roughly 68K in late June to about 49K at the end of September. The app's active users fluctuated slightly, starting at 1.20M and ending the quarter with approximately 1.08M.

Google Earth had consistent weekly downloads, starting at around 49K in late June and peaking at nearly 67K in mid-July. The number of active users remained relatively stable, starting at about 478K and ending the quarter at approximately 435K.
